“earth”

disney-nature-earth-movie-posterOver the weekend, I saw a gazelle get chased down by a cheetah (in slow mo, that is). A humpback whale make its first long journey from tropical waters to Antarctica. Baby polar bears see the warm sunlight for the first time. And of course, a great white shark catch a tasty meal of seal.

What did you see?

If you like animals and nature, you will love the movie “earth.” I had heard a little bit about how many years it took to gather the high-quality footage. I think the final product was quite impressive and worth seeing on the big screen. The free movie tickets I had were put to good use.

Today a friend told me about the Planet Earth DVD set, which was made by some of the same people. In the promo video, I saw some familiar shots that I had seen in the movie. So my thought is that the movie is just a taste of what’s in the DVDs, which I hope to watch soon.

Natchez Trace Adventures

This weekend was fabulous, as Andy and I took advantage of the pockets of sunny weather between the spring rain showers. We got a few more things checked off our list of fun things to do in the Nashville area.

Saturday morning we ate breakfast at the famous Loveless Café. It was delicious, and we just beat the crowd! Everyone should go to the Loveless, not because it has the best food in the world (it’s definitely good, though), but because it’s been a Nashville stop for travelers since 1951. Local place, worldwide name. Check out the story.

After breakfast, we headed on a windows-down drive of the peaceful Natchez Trace, which technically ends (or for us, it begins) just down the road from the Loveless. The weather couldn’t have been any nicer! My favorite stop was Jackson Falls, around mile 404. Since it had just rained a lot, the water was crystal clear, the waterfalls were flowing, and everything was glistening.

We made an impromptu lunch stop at the original Puckett’s Grocery in Leiper’s Fork  on the way back to Franklin and were pleasantly surprised to get sodas with real sugar in glass bottles. :)

Here are some pictures from the day:

When the rain sends me indoors

Could it have rained any more over the weekend?

I know it could have, but wow. I haven’t been anywhere lately where it has rained as heavily and steadily as it did during the past few days. Quite fascinating, really. I think rain and thunderstorms are pretty cool (but not when tornados are mentioned).

Though I don’t really like to be confined inside on account of the weather, sometimes I enjoy it. I did quite a bit of cooking, watched three movies, and just hung out. It was simultaneously relaxing and productive. The whole weekend I was also extremely thankful that the good Lord held off the rain last weekend for the half marathon. I would not have completed the half in a monsoon.

The kitchen was filled with the scents of blueberry muffins (the boxed kind, but they were still awesome!), paninis, Mexican lasagna, and five-layer dessert bars. I haven’t cooked that much stuff in a short amount of time in a while. Thankfully I didn’t burn anything.

Ok, now most of you will probably think I am insane, but I have never seen the Bourne trilogy movies. <insert your moment of shock. Take a picture of your shocked face and send it to me.> However, I watched The Bourne Identity this weekend. One down, two to go. It was great! I also watched National Treasure 2 (pretty good) and Bruce Almighty (I fell asleep). I have a couple of movies I finally want to get around to watching this week, so if time allows, I’ll get them checked off my “To Watch” list this week.

It’s May. That’s exciting. April showers bring May flowers. Hopefully spring will stick around a bit longer before humidity sets up camp for a few months.

Travel season is also upon us now. It’s been fun to read and hear about various trips my friends are planning in the coming months. Haiti, Peru, Guatemala, all around Europe, California, Washington state, Kazakhstan, Sweden, Belize, and Chicago, are just a few of the destinations I’m aware of you guys are going. I am not planning any big travels through the summer due to other priorities I’m currently saving for. So right now I am having fun keeping up with yall and your traveling adventures. Oh, and I am just now getting started on my Shutterfly photo book from my Russian and European Adventure ’08, so that will keep me quite busy in the meantime. :)

Hope everyone’s week is getting off to a good start!
