I know, I know, I am posting this a little late. It may be old news to some of you, but oh well. You can just relive Spirit Week all over again.
Last week was Spirit Week at my work, celebrating some big things that are going on, including Dave’s new primetime TV show on the new Fox Business Network. On Celebrity Day, me and 4 guys I work with dressed up as some of the characters on our favorite show, “The Office”. Check out these pictures:

One of my other favorite pictures, totally unrelated to “The Office” is the following one. Mine and Smitty’s original plan was to dress up as KFed and Britney, but due to multiple KFed’s coming to the office the day before, we decided to change our game plan to none other than the king and queen of Scientology and pop culture, TomKat.
If you’re looking for something pretty cheap and fun to do this weekend, head on over to the hometown of yours truly, Bell Buckle! It’s time for the 31st annual Webb School Arts and Crafts festival.
I have gone to this festival (the #1 one arts one in TN) for as long as I can remember with my mom, Aunt Viv, and family friends. It’s just a fun time of walking around the town on a beautiful Saturday looking at some cool stuff (and some true junk) and seeing old friends. When I say “cool stuff”, I mean it; there is some cool stuff. When I say “some true junk” I definitely mean it. But it wouldn’t be the same if there wasn’t any tacky crap, too!
No, I am not going to recount the history of the fabulous sandwhich shop that is Which Wich?. I will, however, inform you that yesterday history was made!
Months ago, Chris Thomas began a mission to eat all 51 sandwhiches currently available at Which Wich? He even began blogging his review of each wich, creating a buzz about the place. Yesterday about 50 of his friends and coworkers gathered at our local Which Wich? in celebration of him finishing this journey and becoming the first member of Club 51.
To top it all off, the founder of the shop known for making superior sandwhiches flew in from Dallas and bought all of us lunch! Which Wiches on the house! Love it! Thanks, Jeff! I loved my wich (the Thank You Turkey), the house chips, and the chocolate milkshake. I’ll definitely be returning for those foods made of awesomeness.
Well, I’m not sure he’d call himself that, but whatever. Cali Lewis, the face of Geek Brief TV (a 3-5 minute video podcast, released 4-5 times a week, covering news about technology, consumer electronics, and Web 2.0 projects), came to the office earlier this week all giddy and excited (or so I hear) to interview Dave and get the scoop on the brand-new, cutting-edge FPU Online resource. Watch the interview here
No, I didn’t talk to her… what would we talk about? I am not fluent in “techie talk”. However, I am sure she likes to talk about other things, too… Anyway, she did get the Lampo grand tour with the highlight of her tour being the awesome web area, I’m sure! Maybe she’ll come back again soon!
My Saturday adventure with gobs of middle schoolers was actually really fun. I got ready for it by getting a burst of energy with a Starbucks Chai latte (which I love) in my belly before my day began at 7 am, bright and early.
To start the Rad Dog Road Trip off, I experienced something I bet not many people have. An Elvis impersonator at 8 am. In a barn. At a church.
The road trip to and from Memphis was long, but it actually went by faster than I expected. Thanks to Paige for introducing lots of the kids to the game Mafia. If you ever wonder how to keep a group of middle schoolers occupied for hours, teach them Mafia. It’s fabulous. My favorite quote of the day was how I convinced Hope that we were headed to Jackson, MS, totally bypassing Memphis. She and some others didn’t realize how interstate signs work and that Memphis is not far from MS. That was fun.
Well, we didn’t go to Jackson, MS. Graceland was our main destination of the day. Some of my girls and I toured Elvis’s home and one of his planes, the Lisa Marie. I wonder why some people travel all the way to Memphis to tour Graceland and the other Elvis stuff, kinda like an outdoor museum. Here is one of our video commentaries of the afternoon…
In other Saturday news, so sad about the Cubs. At least they got it over and done with early.

Remember the gooey awesomeness commonly referred to as silly putty? I remember it used to be THE stuff way back when. And guess what? It’s awesome that it’s still around. Ken, one of my coworkers, has some. Yesterday afternoon, he made the mistake of putting this super-gooey, neon green silly putty on his arm. Here’s what happened:
Uh oh. It was too late. Many minutes were spent trying to untangle it all. Poor Ken.
May this be a lesson to us all.
In other news…
Last night we had great discussions and teaching from Reid about the Emergent Village and Emerging movement. He’s a dude that loves research and writing to help us understand issues and theology. Here are some articles he pointed us to before his full paper is up on the web: this, this, and this.
Tomorrow I am going on the Rad Dog Hound Dog road trip to Memphis. Just picture me and other leaders jumping on a big charter bus with tons of hyper middle school kids at 7:30 am and not returning until 9 pm. All I know so far is that we are going to Graceland. That will be my day. But it will be a great day! Stay tuned.
October is one of my favorite months. You got exciting baseball, perfect weather, and beautiful scenery. However, there are these annoying things called allergies. I hate them. Period.
